The 2025 Channel Chief is arguably a role that has evolved over the last 44 years and maybe even longer. The Channel Chief plays a pivotal role in driving the success of an organization’s channel and overall go to market strategy. Their expertise and leadership are crucial in ensuring that the channel partners are effectively managed, overall channel operations are streamlined, results are over-achieved and channel is integrated into other core business priorities. Ability to Execute and Align
Strategic planning and execution / attribution. Channel Chief’s responsibilities. They must be able to:
- Develop and implement comprehensive channel strategies that align with the company’s overall objectives.
- This strategy must be aligned and validated with the “C” suite. At a minimum, CFO, CMO and COO. It is not uncommon to have visibility at the CEO and even Board levels depending on the size and complexity of the organization
- Validation and Attribution metrics are essential and should have dynamic dashboard visibility with a format that is consistent (terminology, units of measure, attainment targets and appearance) with other corporate dashboards. This will help with sustained alignment with the “C” suite
- Establish a cadence for review. Consistency is key to having a piece of the agenda in senior staff weekly meetings and QBR’s. Also maintain predictable one on ones (up & down, agenda agreed before meetings)
Organizational Strategy and Hiring Excellence

- The key to these skills is intent, context and purpose. You need to hire not what the industry needs but want your organization needs to over-achieve KPI’s

- Push your front line to be as comfortable as you are engaging with Partner “C” level leaders. This can be accomplished through joint calls and even AI driven avatars.

- Don’t confuse leadership with management
- Leadership is creating a vision , rewarding behaviors and communicating longer term strategies
- Management is a more short-term outlook focused on specific KPI’s and rewarding results
- Test both aspects to regularly to determine effectiveness. This can be accomplished through mentors, reverse mentors, one on ones and specific feedback
- Frequently monitor though team performance quantitative and qualitative metrics

- Budgeting and forecasting to ensure optimal allocation of resources. Focus on consistent execution and not creating top-line or bottom-line surprises
